FAQs
IS THERE A DRESS CODE?
ANSWER: Yes, our wedding is Formal cocktail attire. But of course we want you to be comfortable. Don't worry ladies we wont be on the sand so you don't have to worry about your heels sinking into the sand. ;). We will have flip flops for the laddies to change into as your feet get tired from all the dancing.
WEDDING CEREMONY?
ANSWER: Our ceremony will be beach front, but not directly on the beach, so you’ll never have to worry about sand. Our reception will then be on the hotel rooftop overlooking the entire property. Abbey’s bridesmaids will be wearing black dresses and Richard's groomsmen will be wearing black suits, so if you don't want to match the bridesmaids, we suggest avoiding black dresses! But if you're okay with matching that is okay with us!
Will WINSTON BE THERE?
ANSWER: Sadly as much as we love to have Winston in the wedding the hotel does not allow dogs. He will be back home in Chicago getting lots of love and waiting for us to come home.
ARE CHILDREN INVITED TO BE A PART OF THE WEDDING FESTIVITIES?
ANSWER: We know your kids are awesome, but we hope you can respect our decision to host an adults-only wedding. This means that all guests are 16+ with the exception of our nephews and nieces should they be able to come and be part of the wedding party.
That being said, the alternative side of the Hyatt resort, Ziva Cap Cana, is family-friendly with lots of cool hangouts like the “Teen Zone”, and we have reserved a select number of rooms on that side should you choose to bring your kids along with you on your vacation.
The Hyatt Resort, Ziva Cap Cana does offer Professional Nannies! First 3 hours is $25 an hour then $15 an hour after that. You can look into reviews and reach out to the resort for additional questions to help with peace of mind.

WHICH SIDE OF THE RESORT IS ADULTS-ONLY?
ANSWER: The adults-only side of the resort is called the Zilara Cap Cana. Meanwhile, the family-friendly side is called the Ziva Cap Cana. Most of our rooms in our block are reserved on the Zilara (adults-only) side, with a few reserved on the Ziva (family) side. Please make sure to read carefully when selecting your room from our list of options, as they explicitly say which side of the resort it's on.
IS THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC SAFE TO TRAVEL TO?
ANSWER: Yes, the DR is safe to travel to, especially the city of Cap Cana! It is a gated neighborhood that has tight security. In fact, you cannot even get into Cap Cana unless you are resident of the city or are a guest at one of the resorts. If you decide to explore the beautiful Dominican Republic outside of the resort, you have the option to book excursions or travel with the Hyatt directly. All tourists should use their common sense when visiting any international destination, such as the Caribbean. This means protecting your belongings and staying alert in areas outside of the resort.
DO WE NEED TO EXCHANGE OUR CURRENCY TO TRAVEL?
ANSWER: The official currency of the DR is the Dominican Peso. However, in and around Punta Cana, the U.S. Dollar is widely accepted as currency in stores, resorts, and restaurants. Because of this, and the fact that your stay is almost entirely pre-paid for, we recommend you travel with U.S. Dollars and do not need to participate in currency exchange. You DO, however, need your passport, so make sure you check expiration dates ASAP.
WILL THE WEDDING TAKE PLACE INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?
ANSWER: Since we’ve chosen to get married in the beautiful Caribbean, it would be a waste to get married indoors! Our wedding ceremony will be outside by the beach gazebo, and our cocktail hour and reception will take place on the rooftop terrace at the Ziva. The terrace is partially covered, but will have gorgeous views of the entire property, a perfect backdrop for photos!
